Dipping my toes and cracking my wallet

Memory-High Priest of Desna
Ok. I want to support this game. The sandbox fad is what it is, but this one actually looks promising. For a while I was debating between this and Albion Online, but the wallet is opening. I want to be a part of this world, but I have some questions.

* Player structures: What's the deal with them? I see that they can be acquired through crowdfunding ect, but is the game yet at a stage where they can be crafted and built the old fashioned way?

* Combat: Is there anything–implemented or planned–that affords you the opportunity to run away, escape, or otherwise evade other players in the environment?

* Economy: My plan at this stage is to go in as a dedicated healer/buffer/merchant/crafter, meaning that I will always need others (even if they're just mercenaries) to accomplish anything. Am I going to be broke?

* Is there any information available on the site that explains what "Goblin Squad Membership" actually is? or the "alliance pack" ect.?
Anyway, thanks for your time. I do hope to find myself running around in game within the next couple of days.

Some structures, like Base Camps and Smallholdings, can be bought in the Goblinworks Store. These are not implemented yet, and differ from the built-in-game versions mainly in that they can never be permanently destroyed. They generally provide functionality that can also be provided by built-in-game structures. The built-in-game versions of these are not in-game yet, but we expect them sooner than the more significant structures like POIs (Points of Interest), Outposts, and Settlement Improvements.

There are a number of Feats and Expendables that can help you get away. The Staff Cantrip Energetic Field provides a very significant speed bonus. Expendables like the Robue Maneuver String Bolos can be used to slow those pursuing you. Of course, these can also be used to try to catch up to you or slow you down, too.

That depends on who those others are. If your plan is to always pay others in Coin, then you'll probably have a rough time. If instead you plan to pay them by helping them achieve their goals, then you'll probably be fine.

Goblin Squad Membership just means you contributed to the Kickstarter. The details of the Alliance Pack have not yet been finalized or shared with us.

I see. paying with my talents and services was always the way I intended to do it, but I'm mostly worried about the demand for such services. I understand the game encourages players to branch out a lot rather than focus on specializations. Does this mean that the services of somebody like me would not be in demand?

Actually, the services of a crafting specialist would probably be in pretty high demand. Especially when you're able to make things that few others can make because they spent XP on other things.

I think all settlements would welcome a dedicated harvester, refiner or crafter. In the Emperyean Order I have been busily fighting bandits/wolves/goblins/skeletons all over the map while gathering resources from different nodes. I brig these back to Keepers Pass and hand them over to the refiners and crafters who then make nice new magical gear for me so I can go out and kill more monsters smile

great news. that's why I also wanted to go into healing. it means that I won't be spending a lot of my JuJu on weapons, combat, and destruction, which goes right in line with the crafting and economy related skills I want, but still gives me a good reason to participate in the various adventuring and danger in the world. Also, I'm sure many organizations or parties would be happy to include another guy that can keep them alive.

Are there any stealth or hiding mechanics that would allow one to avoid confrontation reliably?

harneloot is right in that settlements would welcome a dedicated harvester, refiner or crafter.
Example, Talonguard is a crafter town that will give you room to experiment with what you want to do,
My crafter has been looking at each refine and craft job and finding what will fit him best.

You can buy Stealth ranks to hide, but they are not fool proof.

for PVE mobs you got some breathing room,
for Players it'll on their perception skill

well, nothing is ever for certain I guess smile I didn't expect it to be perfect, but as long as I have options, I feel good about my choices. From experience, I know that in pvp games unless you derive most of your loot/income from combat and battles, you're better off avoiding conflict as much as possible. That's not to be confused with acting like a total carebear, and avoiding any possibility of conflict.

are there any recommendations on where I should go upon entering the game for the first time? where I should settle? I won't know what you're talking about, but i'll refer to it later when I'm in the game.

There will likely be several here who will plop in some shameless plugs and ask that you come join their settlement (after all, what would recruiters be for if not this?), but which one you choose really comes down to your playstyle is, what your ultimate goals are, and what kind of people you like to hang out with. You might check out the recruiting section of the forums, as most of the settlements have posted a blip about what they are and what they do.
