MMORPG Will Review PFO

Those are all features that will make the game better. They are not features that make the game function at a minimal viable level.

Once you announced opening up PFO to the KS'ers with Open Enrollment access, don't you see how many will see that as an indication that PFO is no longer in EE? Minimal Viable Product was never what you defined it as, it is what the potential or current consumer views it as.

Some of the features that Tyncale mentioned are what would be considered "fully featured" and others MVP, the fact that none of them are in yet says that MVP is not enough and or the claim PFO is a fully featured sandbox MMO is premature. You can not have it both ways.

Much like those that say that MMORPG should review the game within some context that is not relevant for the reviewer or his/her audience. Few people care where the game was or where it is projected to be, they are deciding to either pay or not to pay for the game where it is now. Again, they decide what is MVP.

I remember about a year ago someone linked a video of a game on the pazio boards showing a naked brigade of people with clubs beating each other and wandering around… cant help but think people that participate in free beta would find that great fun.

That was me smile Bluudwolf managed to get that thread locked because it was so resonant with some of us, and effectively showed why we don't want the kind of FFA gankfest he and some others were always angling for.

I welcome readers to visit that thread on the Paizo forums and judge for themselves. I don't believe I reported the thread, so I had nothing to do with it being shut down. What happened was several people, including myself, found it amusing and we were attacked and accused of condoning RL rape because we found it amusing.

Want to apologize for bringing up that thread if others found it offensive, the only point I wanted to make is that players who want ”free Beta” are more likely to act like players in that video. People without a vested interest in a game and are not paying a fee, leads to game play I have no interest in. PFO has had a handful of incidents with people on general acting like morons with 15 day free accounts and GW has done a good job of shutting that down before it becomes problematic.

Had forgotten or didn’t realize the discussion that followed that video was locked.

It got locked because it suffered from "mission creep". The intent of Mbando may have been to present an example of what he hoped would be seen as unquestionably toxic and unwanted. However a few saw the video as amusing in a context that they viewed it in, and that is when the possible creep began.

Then it became, if you found this amusing, you condone rape. That is why it got locked.

Your bringing that thread up again has value in being a reminder, these are just freaking games. Trying to attach what happens in them to real life is more than a bit silly.

On the topic of the upcoming review, I expect that the reviewer will be furiously emailed to join PFU, will be showered with t2 gear, and escorted n escalations by the big boys…. Or am I just being cynical?

Bill Murphy already had an account. I think he would comment on any change in behavior prior/post announcement.

I'm going to make a new character named "MMORPG Reviewer" and see what happens.

I forget the movie or tv show where someone poses as a restaurant critic to get free food and great service, but I'm sure it happens often.

Ive taken some jabs in that thread at some of the sillier accusations but at the same time there is something that has been bugging me for a while that is going to get hammered hard over the next few weeks: why the box price?

Pay to train is an integral part of the design and if you are playing and being entertained why not pay, cool. We also have a cash shop which I assume will have cooler stuff as we go. But it really is the box price that makes the cash grab accusations undefendable and takes PFO so far outside the going rate for similar products. I thought the box should have been nixed after the KS, but I guess there was an argument about gating the first couple months of EE.

At this point, starving for population, where is the argument to charge a box price for the digitally dowloaded paid beta (I don't mind calling it a paid beta, F it)? I think GW is shooting to high with that box charge, not just now, but forever. Rough waters ahead, good a time as any to bank the goodwill that comes with nixing it.
