Rynnik's Write-Up of PFO

Khorvak McTiernan
Everyones entertainment dollars are unique to their circumstances. I'm of the same opinion as Rynnik on this. It's not my place to tell anyone how best to spend their money…nor is it their place to tell me how to do the same. The simple fact that some people continue to berate this game (which I'm rather fond of) and do so in a very active way…seeking out posts about it just to complain about it…shows the way PFO can get under your skin. In both a positive and negative way.

I don't think anyone is trying to intentionally belittle or alienate anyone. They're simply saying let me do my thing and you can do yours. smile

I do find it funny how people tend to imply or outright say a person's purchase decision is stupid or lacks value. The entire market is run by subjective value. You bought the wrong car, you bought the wrong t-shirt, wrong dog, wrong girlfriend. It gets pretty ridiculous. To each his own.

…no ones monetary decisions are right or wrong…they're all subjective given that individuals perspective. Some are more passionate than others regarding this game. The way some speak about their attitude on PFO varies greatly, based on their experiences with Paizo & the game…but I honestly feel that all those who are truly vested in this game, at this point, are trying to present it in a realistic light. They aren't presenting the game in a way that is skewed or idealized. They are trying to present it in the most honest way they can. Most who are participating in this experiment are positive towards Ryan and his group of developers. That's not to say that everyone is…and those who have tried the game and found it lacking to their tastes are by no means wrong. It's a GAME!!! So there should be a wide range of opinions concerning it. All points whether positive or negative are purely subjective.

They have every right to their opinion…whether it be the same as mine or not. Everyone is responsible for their own spending…and the statement they make with their entertainment dollars in regards to the state of PFO. I, personally, choose to support GW and what they're trying to do with this endeavor. I have no illusions about the percentage of people who probably think that I'm nuts for paying to participate in what amounts to a semi-open beta…but to each their own. Once again, I won't tell you how to spend your money and I appreciate the courtesy in return,

I have less than "no problem" with MMORPG doing a review of PFO. If you're a company that requires the purchase of the game & charges a monthly charge…and will have no future character wipes…well…you're fair game. That is the basic definition of a "released game". I honestly don't feel like there's any animosity towards PFO in any way, shape or form regarding the review. I also have no illusions about the current state of this game. I love this game, and have only recommended it to one friend. The reason being that this isn't a game for everyone. At this point in development, there are only a handful of gamer's who will find this game to their liking…and that's fine. To each their own.

I appreciate the transparency that GW is allowing us. The sense that we are…to some real extent, shaping this game…is a new experience to most of us…I would think. There are quite a few people who are far more devoted to this game than I am. To those few, you have my eternal gratitude. Their names are known to everyone who is currently participating in this bold experiment. And even though I'm a nobody compared to those that will some day be held in reverence in this game, I feel like I'm still making a valid and real contribution to the progression and eventual success of this game.

No one is holding a sharp & pointy to your neck…participation is purely voluntary. Much like the US military for the last 30+yrs…you can jump in if you want…but it's up to you.

I agree with Edam … if you are worried about $15 per month then think of all the money you could be earning instead of bashing PFO for hours on end.

I have no problem with $15 sub but that line right there is pure BS imo. The issue is that there are dozens of subs out there that people budget from Netflix to Cable to NFL Network to other MMO's to the Amazon book club to swedish porn sites (wait..what?).

Point is, people adjust these entertainment subscriptions all the time and bang for your buck is an important decision maker on deciding what stays or goes. Case in point, I bought MLb ticket for April, now I have to pay PFO sub and MLB ticket is gonna go.

PFO is competing for entertainment dollars. That doesn't make anybody who turns it down Vork from The Guild.

The thing is there is no 'right answer' if you do all the math right down to worth or not worth for current costs.

The healthy debate to have is what exists in this game or not, what hooks, appeals, and reasons to play there are or aren't. As long as we are making people aware of fair perceptions of what PFO is right now, we can let them draw the conclusion of whether it is worth their 15 bucks or not at this time.
