Mage Tanks

Sure, my cleric loses pretty much all the time, which isn't inherently a problem, but the problem is *how* he loses. As a fairly powerful melee cleric, I should *want* to be entering melee range, and I should have the advantage if I do, rather than an overwhelming disadvantage. A wizard that beats me most of the time should be doing so because of their ability to keep me at range, not by charging into melee.

Well honestly neither am I. Not a mage here… I was taking a leap in assuming that the spell sounds like a negative energy based spell and that the healing was based off of the damage done to the target?
If it is a straight 7%(or whatever) of the mage's base hp, well that is your problem right there…

It is straight. It is a Cure heal.

OK so it's not really a "tap" off the old victim. It is a negative energy affect though.

Does that not seem… wrong?

The Eternal Balance
Should anyone, ever, be able to spam a 7% Heal effect besides the sole class Feature feat Healer?
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

To the clerics out there - does anyone use anything other than healer ?quote]

Evangelist - that was because I was a top of T2 archer (archer armourfeat /ranged specialisation/L5 attacks) with longbow when that was nerfed so went with Evangelist for the ranged attack and medium armour to maximise use of previous investment in both xp spent and equipment from the first year of the game.

I actually think the 3 cleric classes are pretty balanced, depending on what you want to do there will be one that is 'best'. If you like hand to hand combat Crusader, value survivability go healer, ranged or orison combat Evangelist.

War priest of Angradd… patiently waiting on Goblinworks to deliver him (and greataxes, Dwarves need 2 handed axes).

That is a fairly apt summary.

Edam is a healer cleric and whilst his survivability is very very good he does not have the ability to pull mobs off other players or get crits to power auspicious/stunning/etc critical the way the evangelists do. Overall his damage on the focus is way down as well meaning he needs to slot things like fire mastery to get his stacks up to do get good average DPS.

It is a meaningful choice, healer helps you survive and also means your cleric heals are available to heal others as you use them less on yourself BUT you are much much less effective with a focus than an Evangelist and far less effective with melee weapons then a Crusader.

To some extent this same logic applies to the devourer wizards, they survive well but it takes them a godawful long time to kill anything tough.
