Sorry was too lazy to read whole thread so maybe this was touched on.

I was one of the people who pushed hard for GW to drop the box price. That didn't increase the player base as i thought it might but I do believe it has at least helped keep the population somewhat stable. Dropping the box price was easy to do because almost everybody who had "bought" the box until that point was a kickstarter who got a bunch of other goodies.

Lowering the sub fee, even temporarily, IMHo , is much more complicated. GW's central profit model revolves around Xp =$$ and adjusting the value of the xp is a mess. First it cheapens the advancement of EE players in comparison to OE players who pay it more expensively. Second it's a major adjustment on all the pre-paid subs they have.

So again I go back to the point, if GW is not planning on a true marketing push until OE, then the only option left is to find a way to make EE fun right now for the population we have stagnated on for 9 months.

I have said time and again that waiting for X feature to make the game fun for you and make people pour into the game is a losing proposition. #gushers is just the new #raidable outposts and will only be replaced by #SAD mechanic. We already have 3 times the tools and 2 x the polish we had on day 1, I don't believe that is the issue.

The issue is an empty map, where even the largest groups log in to find nobody on half the time and less than 10 players within 6 hexes of them. I believe the answer to that is the current population must huddle into larger groups on a smaller map. We need to have fun with what we've got. If we can;t do that then we just twidlle our thumbs and wait for OE.

I am highly invested in the success of this game, with ~ 40,000 gathering nodes clicked and thousands of hours spent getting every t2 and t1 recipie and ungating 16 characters to use

I have worked hard and invested thousands of dollars and hours into this game. My a accounts would be for sale if reset

Map size change? I could live with that.
A second and more practical way for this to happen is mounts
Let people ride 2x sprint speed and bam, map size is effectively cut in half.

Sort of. Mounts doesn't make it less empty, but yeah at least it cuts down on "The running game".

-1 disagree, reasons why as soon as I get back to my PC (on cell, tropical storm in progress)

That storm is gawdawful slow! Was supposed to hit Tuesday, now its scheduled for Friday. Has the whole island on hold waiting for it!

Anyways Thod, none of those things you mentioned touch on my concern for Early Enrollment which is population density. IMHO that is the killer right now, a big empty map. An empty MMo is like an empty restaurant, maybe you wanted to go there really bad, but once you see it all empty you turn around immediately.

Don't worry, I'm not on a crusade to shrink the map. I have simply always believed that this map size wasn't going to work with < 5000 active players.

There's a bit of an inside joke in our part of the map.

Q: Who won the War of the Towers, EBA or EoX?

A: Coal Road

From me a clear NO

- starter packs that you paid and have been used - are they reinstated?
- do I start with 500+K and a club - no thank you
- there never was much of a grind if you 'just played' - I'm currently experiencing a self inflicted grind. Thod was my gatherer - but to get to T3 Dowser Theodum is better as he is elf and sage - so I do grind 1000 nodes that I have on a different character.
- the main advantage for a reboot while keeping XP is that players with lots of time will have a HUGE advantage. They have the time to grind quickly. Customers with less time and more accounts and money are most handicapped. What I liked in the game is that there are many older, reasoned players - a reboot is to throw them under the bus in preference of 20 year students as they can afford the race to quickly build
- I've seen a first to the flag with Nhur Athemon. Did this really work for everyone? This is how settlements will be decided if you start from TK and it is first to post
- The current raw materials can't cope. People forget that hexes got depleted day 1 and 2 and at that time they contained A LOT more raw materials. Reboot would end up in scorched lands unless you really allow unlimited resources for at least a week - again giving players an advantage who can put in 24/7 playing during week one
- my advice in case of reboot - take a week holiday and play, play play to stay up in an ultra competitive environment that would be - or don't bother and quit
- work planned for month - like the EL library - will be wiped. What tells me that this won't happen again in a years time

These are just a few reasons against - I likely can find multiple more.

An absolute clear NO. This is a completely interconnected game. A reboot doesn't just reboot a single character. You rip apart a whole network that was build up. It is this network that players take for granted and that is often invisible that will cause outcry and mass leaving the game - not before reboot but in the first month of reboot.

Best plan for 20K new players as I wouldnt be suprised that half the people trying the reboot will leave in month one.

None of that would be affected by a map re-size. A map re-size would only affect the settlements and it wouldn't be too hard to just give out holding kits.

Yeah my impression of EE has always been a way to develop closer to break even, not actually be in the black. But Goblinworks' issues are Goblinworks, I don't know the details so i can't say. I only know that if the population has been flatline for 9 months, then adjustments should be made for the actual population we have.

So who cares if your KD is awesome cuz you sent our T1's home naked.

From where I sit, I've recently seen people like Cheatle ARRIVING naked and Decius ARRIVING in T1.

Maybe there's a logical explanation (and surely there's a spin) but that makes me think that even your best PvPers are running out of gear.

"Pound for pound". Now there's a spin for perennial losers smile

I'll be the first to admit that's spin, though I'd call it spin for the underdogs.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows we are the underdogs. Anyone joining EoX gets that explained to them pretty darn early.

Part of our early initiation rite seemed to be summoning the blob just so the new people could see what they were up against. smile Those who came back a second night were true Xeilians. smile

My new recruitment suggestion:

Join EoX, the "perennial losers" repeatedly burning down Phaeros' outposts and holdings.

LOL. Not bad.

A smaller world will make logistics less important and make force projection even more ridiculously easy.

I'd like to revitalize the game and attract more players, but the problem with the world is that it is too EMPTY, not that it is too big.

We need 3 times the players, if the world is 3 times too big for this population.

Maybe GW should offer free accounts, with the understanding that they'll have to pay backdated subscription fees for the privilege of taking those special accounts (NOT OUR CURRENT ACCOUNTS) into Open Enrollment.

That'd be one hell of a free trial.

Abandoning pay to train at this stage of the game seems less likely than shrinking the map.

… what the heck are they telling each other?

That we won.

EBA's strength was always in its ability to field the casuals that are turned off by EoX's brand of play. That means more players but not all of them are dedicated PvP'ers. So who cares if your KD is awesome cuz you sent our T1's home naked. You lost, time and time again because those same T1's gave us the #'s to win. Yeah sometimes we showed up with more of those casuals than usual, hence fielding a force you could beat outnumbered 3-1 and you'd feel super uber and beat your chest about it.

But KD's aren't winning the battle. Winning the battle is winning the battle. And make no mistake about it, you lost 5 times as many battles as you won.
