Does this update mean/imply/signify that absolutely NOTHING has been done on the Unity upgrade yet?

Not directly, no. Any time spent on the Unity upgrade at this point would just slow the cloud work down even more, so we're putting that off for now. It's possible that some of the changes/upgrades we've had to make to get things working in the cloud (oddly enough, modern server architectures don't always like six-year-old software) would also be required as part of the Unity upgrade, but we'll probably never know for sure how much overlap there is, if any.

Between a mix of physical server issues, holidays, long-overdue vacation days and post-vaccination-blah recovery days, the last couple months have had their share of distractions. Despite it all, Cole had a major breakthrough this week and got Staging (our cloud version of the Zog test servers) accessible from the public internet. I was able to log in without any kind of VPN and run through a complete smoke test. Aside from some minor issues with activating characters from Free Trial Mode, everything else passed with flying colors.

The next step is to figure out which systems need to be finished up, or at least double-checked and fully tested, before we can safely invite all of you to log in and and join me in the cloud! And by that I mean with feet firmly planted in the Echo Woods, we're not adding a flying mechanic at this time smile

The script succeeded and the servers are now back up. With a little luck it will run successfully again tomorrow and Daily Maintenance won't be quite as long as it has been.

As expected, the servers had trouble with Daily Maintenance again today. However, we're trying an experiment with one of the scripts we haven't managed to run all week and it's finally making slow but steady progress. We're going to give that a little extra time today to see if it can finish up successfully. Not sure how much longer that we'll take, but we're keeping an eye on it and will shut it down if it stops making progress or just looks like it will take too long.

Is this at all related to the fact that this Goblinworks website has become super slow and unresponsive? Takes 30 second (or more) very often to navigate around the different pages in here.
Most likely. The main issue is that the database is responding very slowly, and the website also uses the database, so the website also being slower makes sense.

We think we've figured out a way for Daily Maintenance to handle the slower database responses, so we're focusing on that first. After that, we'll start looking into ways to speed the database back up.

The servers are back up for today. Looks like our previous kicks and reboots haven't quite sorted things out, so Daily Maintenance times will probably be on the long side for a little while until we find a better fix.

Servers are still a little slow coming up this morning, so we're going to try a few more fixes. Hoping to have them up in an hour or so.

The servers are back up for today. Sorry about the delays. Hopefully things will run more smoothly tomorrow morning. If not, we'll look into bigger fixes.

The servers have been running into issues during Daily Maintenance this week and the smaller reboots we've done so far haven't quite done the trick. We're taking a little extra time this morning to reboot some of the deeper systems, hopefully that will get things working again and Daily Maintenance will get back to normal again tomorrow. We should be back up within an hour or so, more updates as events warrant.
