There is no point in making +4 or +5 equipment right now (save for implements) as those upgrade levels are reserved for the enchanting system and do not provide extra minor keywords (and thus provide no bonus to EPOW/EPRO).

Why is that?

(I can never remember my password for Ideascale, and just end-up getting frustrated when trying to do anything on that site, so I stay away)

Traveling, to be exact. (ok, it doesn't really work… I just really wanted to use that title ;P )

*Warning: this idea was designed specifically with the “little-to-no programming time” goal from the developers in mind; therefore, any counters, comments, or ideas should carefully consider that goal as well.*

Traveling is a big issue in game, as it is difficult (read: next to impossible) to quickly get somewhere in an emergency, like when a tower or harvesters are being attacked. Because most normal players want to do fun and exciting things with their limited game-play time, most will not opt to patrol towers or enemy territory in the off-chance that they might encounter some excitement. This causes problems (evidence of which we have already seen) with WoT (i.e. no one defends towers) and unplanned PVP (i.e. defenders can’t quickly come to the aid of those who need it).

PFO also needs a coin sink. We all know this.

Proposal

The game has a Teleport function for GMs, and it actually works perfectly for my idea (i.e. it is somewhat broken). I think GW should create an NPC Wizard in the settlements who can teleport a character for a fee . The farther the teleport, the higher the fee (and the risk).

Now, before the back-lash begins, let’s hash out the details:

  • The GM /teleport function is broken: it can only be used to teleport a few hexes at a time, which is perfect because we don’t want it to be used to circumvent the hauling of trade goods or instantly travel the world

  • The GM /teleport function is broken: it will always be a risk to teleport! You may arrive at your destination, the teleport may fail (leaving you at the NPC sans your coin), OR you may teleport through the world! (sorta like the original TableTop Teleport concept anyway)

  • The teleport is a one-way deal: you must talk to the NPC in a settlement to initiate the teleport, therefore it cannot be used to quickly escape fights or transport goods. It is not a travel ‘I win’ button, but a tool to skip 2 or 3 hexes and get you to your destination a little quicker than normal

  • Now, I am not a programmer or a designer, so I don’t really know the feasibility of this idea. I do know that fast travel is a planned feature, I am just not confident that we can wait very long for it. Travel is a quiet, but massive, issue in the game that I personally believe is a contributing factor to many other issues there are right now with the game.

Nobody is really supposed to farm by themselves in this game. This is a cooperative, massively multi-player game.

And besides that, I know many wizards who do quite well for themselves in combat, including PVP. My fighter has been killed many times by wizards.

Combat is not always about the damage: you have to make intelligent use of conditionals (like slowed) and states (like dazed and unbalanced). That is the key to combat.

Hmm, yeah. I was hoping it was a little more precise than that: I am attempting to make a table for my Quick Reference sheets so people can quickly determine what rank they should be able to train for a feat.

    Thanks for the info, Guurzak.

Generally speaking, if X is your level of training you should be able to train:

Crafting, Refining, Gathering, and Knowledge skills available in your settlement up to X
Hit Points the best of X if you are a Fighter settlement, .75X if you are Rogue or Cleric, and .5 if you are Wizard. So a Fighter/Wizard Settlement would train X.
Power the best of 2X for Cleric and Wizard settlements or X for Rogue and Fighter settlements.
Attack and defenses bonuses taught in your settlement to .5X

If you aren't getting those it's a bug.

So currently and through EE4 in NPC settlements you can train up to:
    Power 16
    Hit Points 8
    Armor 6
    Attack and Defense Bonuses 4
    Attacks up to 3
    All skills up to 8

We are looking at changing the max training level for NPC settlements downward for EE5.

Just looking for some clarification on the above:

  • It says Attacks up to 3, is this a typo? Does that mean Attacks are 1/3 of level, rounded up, and Armour is 2/3?
  • Does Lee's example imply that NPC settlements train at the 'best' level of all the settlement types?
  • What is the calculation for Role Features?
  • Proficiencies? Defensives? Reactives?

  • Thanks for the info!
