This is an incredibly well-thought-out analysis. Nice job Tink.

I whole-heartedly agree. When I read Stephen`s remark about the game being balanced around a 1v1 taking 30 seconds, I did a double-take. Yes, we don`t want 1v1`s lasting 5 minutes, but 30 seconds is way too short.

The design intent, as described by the devs way-back-when, was to have tactical combat, where effects and conditions were important. Tink is absolutely right, though: right now effects are not important. I can`t even count how many times I have dropped so fast in PVP that I had absolutely no idea who hit me.

Lastly, while I think that the limitations to the PVP/feud system are partly to blame, I know even from 1v1 testing that fights don't last long enough. I would love for combat to be much more tactical and much less twitchy.

It has always been that way when kiting. For mobs, I've always assumed the combat timer runs out even though the aggro has not. Attacking them, or allowing them to hit you restore the Opportunity condition. For PCs, the question would be, are they kiting and losing combat stance, or are they losing Opportunity despite continuing combat actions.

Exactly; which is why I personally would suggest Opportunity applying regardless of combat. In fact, why shouldn't all statuses work under that principal? Can a dev remark?

I always notice this as well.

I wonder if it has something to do with 'combat stance'.

I think Opportunity should be changed to trigger WHENEVER you are moving, regardless of if you are in combat or not. I don't know how that would work for the HUD, but maybe just having the HUD hide automagically when you are OUT of combat could work.

Some players do not WANT to hop to other companies, whether it be for role playing purposes or a myriad of other reasons. I don't really care if you CAN company hop, I just don't want to HAVE to (which seems to be the direction we are headed) because it gives an advantage or makes feuding easier, or any other reason.

I really hope GW comes up with a brilliant solution to this issue. I don't want to punish anyone who wants to hop, I just don't want to be forced to in order to be viable.

I personally don't know; the movement trainer was the closest NPC when my PC spawned, so I naturally spoke to her first.
