Apologies for taking so long to get back to this. Between getting EE 14 out the door, all the updates that followed, and the preparation for EE 15, this stayed on the back burner much longer than intended. However, I've now updated the original post with two quick things based on the last round of feedback:

  • Added that the attackers have to maintain feuds against the target while establishing the siege as well.
  • Added a Weekly Warfare Deposit, half of which goes to the victor.

Take another quick look, post any remaining feedback, and then we'll set a date to start this system up.

I feel obliged to point out my usual position that failure penalties are blob friendly.
You feel this is because no one will attack the Blob if they might lose and face penalties? Something different then please explain. smile

It would be disastrous if groups wind up being taken over by some dude who had little to do with the first 8 months of big active companies accruing wealth before the layoffs.

Many people still intend to return to the game, but won't if some random they were willing to give a chance, but didn't trust enough to make a leader, becomes the leader and empties the vault.

Anyone who finds their company's leadership isn't present should have moved to a company that is active, rather than angling for a hostile takeover that is only possible with dev interference (and they are likely wanting to do it with some alt, since a main would have joined a new company with active leadership by now).
Good thing that there is the opportunity to respond to such challenges and that it looks like the highest ranked "actives" will all be considered as replacement first. Otherwise it could be almost as dangerous as someone getting control through an account sale and wrecking everything. Even waiting to switch out of Banner Status so a Sett can be sieged easily.

I am a fan of Azoth and even though I think that it should be within reach to build a Keep without Azoth, I also realize that 2-3 person settlements should probably realize that regular crafting buildings(while possible) is only realistic with some kind of boost.

You can make a +5 Keep without Azoth. It just takes a LOT more gathering of raw materials. We put Azoth in the game in order to ease the burden of making higher plus things. Btw, just for reference, the cost for the Azoth to make the +5 Keep in my example is $8.60 if you buy it at the 19 Box level. Not too bad for a pivotal building in your settlement.

I know that I am just a 1/2 pea in a 5 gallon pot of the green stuff but think how much Azoth might flow around if we could list player gathered and crafted stuff or bid for things with Azoth through the AH? smile

Thanks Bob and Lisa. I sometimes forget that my group is looking at getting 3 settlements to 20 for starters. That there are "Support Mitigators" like the 1/2 way thing. Also that you are planning to ease the transition in some fashion.

Bottom line: I think that the population is too small right now to burden it with ANY of this support and building req stuff.

We're looking into ways to ease into these requirements, but at the same time we want to provide incentives for going beyond the buildings most of you are getting distributed for free.
Then why req us to build a copy of every building from +1 to +5(sans the free) to get to that "Golden 20"?
It is really very difficult to amass that many recipes/expendables, let alone the raw-then-refined-crits on mats.
In the cases of siege loss, the higher building "hp's strength) certainly don't reflect the cost to build them.

It is kinda turning into, what feels like IMO, a serious chore that virtually looks endless. I mean I know there is an end, I just don't think it is an end we will see… for a year or more. It's not fun to spend so much effort for just this aspect of play.

PS: I simply feel real sad for any Settlement that only has a few active members at this time. Can't imagine what the amounts look like when they review just for the Keep, which doesn't even require codex collections.

We're still working out exact details, but one idea is to initially allow a settlement with +2 buildings to be just as good as a settlement can be now, as long as it pays for the extra settlement levels. Then we'd ramp things up over time so that eventually you'd need +3 buildings to do so, then +4, and finally +5.
Well I suppose that would take some of the pressure off of feeling like things have to be ready within 2 months or so. smile When can we find out what you decide about that?

Also, do you feel that Building Strength(referring to siege mechanics here) reflects the player cost of the buildings?

Hi All,
Question for all of you. I am trying to figure out where people are playing most. I want to buy raw materials. Besides TK where can I put up Buy Orders for materials that see frequent activity? Is KP a good place to buy or mostly just to list? Are there any players that want to turn their cluttered vaults into gold? Any other ideas?

Thank You

Much appreciated.

I'm more than willing to discuss game philosophy and what types our two groups are looking for to fill ranks in a separate thread if you want.
