If you want to make PVP more interesting, you add interesting elements. Things like: You Die you respawn far away or you build a vulnerable "spawn point" nearby but it can be found and destroyed. You add "gear loss". You fix shields for combat so there can be shield walls and other broken feat issues. You make the feud and Influence invested meaningful and costly if misused. Etc…, etc…

If you want staged fights, you make long talks and walks on the beach before hand so that you can have solid agreements that are understood on all sides.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Lots of things to agree to that not everyone involved will agree was agreed to at the end… How do you guys factor in for type and strength of holdings and outposts? You will need a 3 week back and forth to iron out the "rules" for every feud.

If you can pull it off, I'll be impressed.

Honestly at the end of the day with PvP there are just some times were you learn some harsh lessons. We had to on various occasions. It sucks but it happens to all of us.
In the end, it's still just a game. Supposed to still be fun (overall) even when you sometimes get double jumped in checkers. It can be as we control how harshly things actually affect us.

You have what you hold. That includes escalations…. and works both ways.
Yeah, I feel like that is about as close to any agreement that we will ever get, server wide.

Well things were taken up a notch and there was genuine disappointment but no war was declared or anything. Hardly a zero to ten moment.
I can fully understand some ire at how things did play out. Not fun to go on a run to find your dates are standing you up. smile

<Sigh>. This is turning out just as I predicted. Once again, it is the start of 'burning the world' down talk. With such attitudes, not wonder there is a fair amount of aversion to PvP. Thanks for proving to me that nothing PvP can be done without it starts heading straight to 10.

I think you misunderstood here. I'm not angry. I am more sad that no PvP actually happened. No battles, no intrigue, nothing. smile

There was nothing to go straight to ten about in the first place smile
Well apparently someone is a bit upset. The OP kind of leads on that because people didn't show up where expected, the "Diplomatic Status" that was has been escalated a notch in what the OP hints is a negative direction.

I was hoping that we can get to the point that some PVP is just a thing that doesn't have to start world wars. Those are too expensive and too time consuming.

Of course, I might be reading nothing more than some RP and getting the wrong impression. That would be nice.

Well I don't speak for the Dominion in any capacity but I hope that I could be considered for an invite to an RP type event next time. Sounds like more fun than looking for "weak luminous" gushers. smile

That was what that brief chatter was about? Didn't have a clue something was going on. I thought Gross was just getting randomly ganked somewhere and he was simply being gentlemanly and sportsmanlike about it.

Thank you for what you have so far done, Duffy. It is above and beyond already, what the majority of us have.

And again, many thanks to all those that came before with their savvy/sexy skills, also.

Just so that what I feel is clear to any readers: I certainly feel that any groups which come into the game should be able to establish their own "spots" whether the they are grouped after coming or before. Whether they find unoccupied lands, make deals or take areas through PVP. There should be a fairly clear path or several paths to follow and succeed at to do so. I am also well aware that this game will never work "right" until PVP (the battle/skirmish/small time kind) is MUCH MORE COMMON. The game's whole concept was designed around it.

I very much agree, and perhaps the empty settlements are the middle-ground option to allow that to occur? Then we can fight over the hexes that actually produce enough bulk to support a settlement?
It would be a good idea for all that own basically empty settlements to get used to the idea that they will be juicy looking to groups of new players that have none.

You misunderstood. I meant the empty, never developed settlement hexes spread throughout the map not all the inactive and semi-inactive ones already claimed.
My apologies Good Sir. Not on purpose.

Those will be an interesting case if activated. Yes those will cause much fighting for good producing hexes as, with them activated, there are not enough hexes for all….. smile

Edit: There really has been no mention about that happening throughout the Roadmap, though. I do not think that the general plan for OE includes a nice attractive "Pillar of Homesteading" because there is no need seen for it or just no time to do it.
