Offering a summary of my thoughts from the other thread…

I believe gushers of a tier should be reserved for the final rank of the tier. So a gather qualifies for T1 gushers at rank 6, T2 at rank 13 and T3 at rank 20. In essence I think each tier should have a capstone of granting access to T__ gusher

My thoughts behind this..

Those ranks represent the point a character has learned everything they can about gathering Tier__ resource and that unlocks the ability to locate gushers of that tier.

Having the last rank in a tier unlock gushers gives a significant advantage to people who want to master gathering.
Adding the xp needed to get from rank 14 to rank 20, is around 340 days. If you go to rank 16, that still leaves 266 days to max the skill. My opinion is that T3 hexes have around 50 items before degrading, and if we are able to pick the tier of thing we are looking for, then just speed of gathering faster is not worth the xp spent to do so.

I want players that are dedicated to this gathering to be rewarded and the best reward a gatherer can hope for is finding a gusher.

I know the OP of this thread disagrees. I Do not want to rehash or debate my views with him, I just want it to repost them here in case a dev reads this page and not the other.

Fair enough, but will still disagree that people who take the skill to 20 already have advantages, because I just don’t see any advantages ( I see many more advantages for characters that branch out and become more well rounded). The one thing that was holding me back on what an advantage could be, for a gatherer, was gushers.

I can say for certain once any of my characters get to rank 14, I never will purchase any more ranks in that skill under a system that doesn’t grant a reward for completing a tier tree ( and will be surprised if many people do).

The rank 16 guy who has 266 days xp of combat skill. Should not have the ability to find gushers and the rank 20 guy should.

You are saying the guy that has spent xp to rank 16 should have a chance at gushers. I disagree because a rank 16 guy is going to be more well rounded and serve more of a purpose than the rank 20 guy. I want to give the rank 20 guy an advantage and a clear cut reason to pursue rank 20.
Curious. .. why would you find it disappointing if gushers were limited to people who got rank 6, 13, &20? Why not reward the people that finish out the tier.

If the max rank gather meets a rank 16 gather in a contested hex … I will take the rank 16 gatherer that has 266 days of combat skills in addition to the rank 16 gathering stuff over the rank 20 gatherer.

The rank 20 will not be able to run the rank 16 guy off. The rank 16 guy can probably hold his own for a good while and finish the job, while the rank 20 guy has to call in support and hope they get there in time..

Just something to think about, as T3 resources are in known locations, they are going to become things people will fight over, good luck having a pure gather against characters that can both gather and have combat skill.

Shrug …. I probably will never max any gathering skill ,, and I can definitely say I will never even consider maxing one if I gain access to gushers of the same tier as someone who has mastered the skill
It is just my opinion …

Anyone that chooses to do max a gathering skill should be rewarded with something . Limiting gushers to people who master that tier of gathering just seems like a natural fit and a real reward to a someone who has choosen to do so ( more so than here is a encumbrance bonus of 5 more lbs ie 10 rocks as ore is the main culprit for encumbrance issues)..
Also keep in mind last I heard being able to limit what you are looking for by tier when you go to gather a node was on the that will be cool list if we get programming time to do it.. was thinking of that for the example..

Okay ill put it this way..

T3 resources are set at what 50 a hex before it degrades?
You get 2 a node at rank 14 average.. 25 nodes to degrade hex
You get rank 16 and you end up a average of 3-4 a node.. 13-15 nodes to degrade a hex
Rank 17 xp cost 121989 51 days,
Rank 18 xp 144808 61 days
Rank 19 xp 170309 71 days
Rank 20 198639 83 days

Who is going to spend 266 days of xp to get a hex to degrade in 5-6 nodes rather than 13-15 nodes ? No one is going to save 10 min in a hex by spending 266 days of xp .. there is absolutely zero incentive to ever max a gathering skill to rank 20 as it stands now.. Putting gushers as the last thing a gathering skill will give those last 4 ranks a purpose because right now they serve zero purpose.

Rank 14 could exploit a T2 gusher with no problem.

I just feel there should be a benefit to getting to the last Tier of a gathering skill, in effect you have mastered finding all of that tiers resources and providing gushers at that point would make sense.

T3 resources sound fairly limited. very small amounts are found prior to degrading, gaining rank 15 and 16 are going to mean you find the normal resources even faster, which means you degrade the hex in less time. If you are able to gain T3 gushers at rank 16 at a medium level, spending the xp to get to rank 20 would not be a smart idea.
I just feel gushers for the Tiers should be reserved for the people that have truly mastered the tier.

Not really what the OP is describing, but gushers as I thought them to be were nodes that produced large amounts of resources.

If these are put into the game, something that needs to happen imo is that gushers for T1 can only be found with folks with rank 6, gushers for rank 2 should only be found with folks with rank 13 , and T3 should only be found with folks with rank 20.

If there is no incentive to go beyond rank 14 in any gathering skill, what is the point of spending all that xp to get to 20 ?
