Elsworth,

The problem with that is that I know people who have been randomly killed whilst traveling/gathering alone by various members of EoX in the mountains near Keeper's Pass (some unaffiliated with ANY company). This activity happened while we were, supposedly, in a cease fire and continues today during our current time of war.

You are talking about a time when it was difficult to identify someone's alligance (not info at top of screen) so in many cases it was kill first ask questions later. This is not exclusive to EBA territory - it happened everywhere and not just by EoX members. It was almost a daily occurance around Marchmont.

Which goes to another point. People often say that Goblinworks needs to provide mechanical ways to do X. Banditry, for example. Why is it nearly always a kill first ask questions later scenario? If banditry, not murder, is the intent then why not approach the gatherer/traveler and state, "Give me all your <insert desired loot here>." Or if they are trespassing open dialogue as that doesn't immediately involve stabbing?

Answer? Because people do not want to give up first strike advantage. There is no mechanic/system needed to be a bandit… just say, "Give me your loot!" and see what happens. They will either capitulate, run, or fight.

I do not gather often… but twice (with a rather lengthy period between) Phyllian has found me gathering and killed me (once alone and once with Nivia Ray). Both times I was simply not outfitted for combat and was beaten easily. Neither time was there any dialogue prior to being killed. I would have loved to have actually been approached and engaged.

Will I lose any sleep over being attacked? Nope. I lost a few pieces of a coal and had an interesting conversation with Phyllian after the fact.

My point after rambling is that PvP is more than stabbing. We have the ability to have meaningful interaction that doesn't immediately have to result in violence… it very likely could go that way quickly of course.

But again… people do not want to give up that first strike advantage. Hence murder is the banditry of the land even though it does not necessarily have to be.

Can we please stop calling EoX killing EBA "Random Killing" and "PvP for the lulz?"

Elsworth,

Now, I am not saying that you and yours have not been attacked randomly by members of the EBA for various reasons. They probably have. During acts of war I have personally traveled with war bands into your lands to do battle. The only times I have been in EoX lands actually was as part of a war band during times of war.

All I can tell you is that from my perspective, as a citizen of Keeper's Pass, is that you and yours hunted ours war or no war. Hence the perception of you all being murderers.

This may be an incorrect perception but it is the one that exists and perception creates reality as they say.

I am sure your perception of most of the EBA is not much better. /shrug

I like the idea but it seems like it might be toughest on Rogues since almost all of their weapons would end up being piercing wouldn't they?

Daggers are piercing OR slashing in table top games. It should not be an issue to have a weapon count as multiple attack types.

Scabbards… I would love to see my great sword slung across my back, my bow and quiver, etc.

Along the lines of calling of feuds…

Both parties should be able to communicate prior to or during the feud to agree on terms of surrender. This could be concession of a piece of land, payment of commodities, etc.

Basically extortion on the settlement/company scale should absolutely be a thing.

I know a lot of folks would like this capability and some settlements may rather pay off their aggressors as opposed to going into battle.

The thing is… this can be done now. All it requires is a bit of communication between feuder and feudee.

The truth is many of the systems we desire can be accomplished with a little communication. You want to be a bandit instead of a murderer? Talk to your victim. Tell them to, "Give me all your <insert desired loot here>!" They will either acquiesce to your demands, run, or fight. Will this make your job more difficult that simply killing them? Yep, but it is more bandity and less murdery.

The problem is people do not want to give up first strike advantage… even when they are in Dwarven Banded and T2 spears and their target is in Pioneer clothes…

Now, I will also say that in a world where we have learned that Pharasma will not let us die permanently that murder would take on less stigma for the average bandit because why not kill them to take their stuff? It's quicker and easier, right?

EDIT: Quijenoth, your comment about people not wanting to pvp having a way to end feuds without fighting goes with what I was saying. They should be able to communicate with the aggressor to work out a deal for surrender. Of course if no deal can be made they should not be able to simply say, "No, you cannot feud me because I don't wanna." If no terms of surrender agreeable to both sides can be reached then whether they want to fight or not… it's going to happen.

Maybe it is Asmodeus attempting to suck you into Hell Phyllain. Pharasma just won't let us die so you keep coming back. It just takes her a bit of negotiation with old horn head, hence the delay. smile

Seriously though, the falling through the world thing should be pretty high priority to get fixed. I know a lot of people that have simply stopped using any ability with the charge mechanic because of it.

It is also important to note that prices in one settlement will not necessarily match prices in another. This could be due to several factors. A particular material may be more rare in the north than the south so may sell higher there, for example.

Hell, travel around your local area and look at the difference in gas prices. Sometimes a station within sight of another is way higher… and yet people purchase fuel there. Why? Loyalty? Convenience? Ignorance?

It will be the same in the River Kingdoms. Prices will fluctuate settlement to settlement.

Obligatory +1, nothing more to add. This simply needs to happen.

Well, regarding what armor they will wear… my guess is they won't. It is kind of a big thing for monks that they do not wear armor and lose a lot of their abilities if they do.
